I have recently returned from attending the 2010 Perform Better functional Training Summit in Rhode Island. I am more excited about attending these educational seminars than I am about going on holiday. As usual this didn't disappoint. I had a great time talking to lecturers such as Lee Taft, Dave Jack, Dr Jeff Anderson and Mike Boyle and meeting new coaches and trainers with the same aspirations as myself.
I attended many hands on seminars about speed training, locomotion training, warm- ups, low box training for speed, cardio strength training plus more. Also I sat in on lectures about passionate coaching, the art of exceptional training and dynamic stability training.
I have already applied it into my program in the sessions I have had since the weekend. I haven't drastically altered or even changed the way I train, just tweaked it a little to make the program better to help my clients even more.
I always try and take advantage of such opportunities from learning from great coaches and people. This summer I hope to learn a whole lot more as I travel around to learn off of other people and their methods. I might not always agree but at least I have the knowledge and understanding about that subject. Only I have the choice to put it into my program or not.
As a player and coach you can always learn more. I suggest you find mentors who you can learn from or attend seminars, courses, camps and the like to broaden your knowledge. This summer is the perfect time for that as there are plenty of opportunities for whatever you are searching for.
