How do you silence the Vuvuzelas? World Cup update
Date of post -Thursday, June 17, 2010

If you were watching the games on Wednesday you may heard a moment of silence where the much talked about vuvuzelas went quiet. Love them or loath them they have shared the limelight of this world cup along with the much criticised ball (and Maradona, who gave another bewildering rant yesterday.) So the question was 'How do you silence them?' Well...Diego Forlan ex Manchester United striker gave that answer...score a 30 yard screamer and crush the dreams of the entire South African people. As his shot flew past the goal keeper also went with it were the hopes of the host nation and thankfully the deafening noise of those lovely horns. It's that easy!

As annoying as they are they are part of the African culture and spirit of the people so we have to respect that and get on with it, or hope South Africa go out in the group stage, which no other host nation has done before. Just kidding of course, you always need the host nation to stay in as long as possible to keep the atmosphere alive.
It wasn't  the only shock of the day as many peoples favourites Spain lost their opening match to the organised Swiss outfit, not just a place for fancy watches and chocolates, they can defend too. This could mean Spain and Brasil possibly meeting in the next round, we don't one of these teams to go out early but it will surely lead to an exciting 2nd round draw.
So all 32 teams have played their cagey opening games and I am looking forward to a more open 2nd round of games. Germany had the best showing with some stylish attacking soccer on display. Most teams trying to defend in blocks and hit teams on the break. With counter attacking football much the fashion these days and speed of attack essential to any teams progress I still expect some close games but now the groups will take a little more shape and teams will try and win games a little more instead of trying not to lose.
